NFL fans react as Cowboys add 'poison pill' to Micah Parsons trade to stop future Eagles deal

The Dallas Cowboys traded superstar cornerback Micah Parsons to the Green Bay Packers in what was one of the biggest moves of the offseason. On Sunday, ESPN reported that Cowboys general manager and owner Jerry Jones included a “poison pill” in the deal to prevent Parsons from joining the Philadelphia Eagles in the near future.

ESPN sources: The Micah Parsons trade to the Packers included a poison pill that the Cowboys inserted to block a near-future deal with the Eagles.

When fans learned of the Cowboys' transactional mechanism in trading Parsons to Green Bay, they had some interesting reactions.

“Jerry is straight up terrified of Howie,” tweeted one, referring to Jones being worried about Eagles GM Howie Roseman.

“Jerry is always mean but generally smart business moves here,” added another.

“The Cowboys really said, 'If we can't have him, Philly definitely can't either.' Classic NFC East drama,” commented a third.

Here are some more reactions.

“It's kind of messed up because Jerry also knows that Micah grew up an hour and a half from Philly. So if Micah wanted to be close to home, he can't.” one wrote.

“That Super Bowl gave Jerry nightmares,” added another.

“Cowboys were really saying 'anywhere but Philly'. Jerry Jones playing 4D chess with this poison pill.” one user tweeted.

The “poison pill” is reportedly that if the Packers trade Parsons to any team in the NFC East, they would have to deal a 2028 first-round pick to the Cowboys.

Micah Parsons has enjoyed a strong start with the Packers, helping the team to a 5-2-1 record heading into their Week 10 matchup against the Eagles. The linebacker has posted 20 tackles (10 solo), 6.5 sacks and seven tackles for loss.

Parsons is expected to play a big role in Green Bay's game against the Eagles on Sunday. He'll have to do his best to nullify the offensive threats of Jalen Hurts and co. at Lambeau Field.

Parsons earned four Pro Bowl honors in four seasons in Dallas. He reportedly requested a trade in the offseason after a long saga surrounding his contract extension, which did not end in agreement between the two parties involved.
