Madison Keys and Jessica Pegula, along with fellow podcasters, aired their feelings on Elena Rybakina's record earnings at the 2025 WTA Finals. The Kazakh earned $5,235,000 for winning the year-end championships, the most a woman has earned in the history of a sports tournament.
Keys and Pegula, along with fellow pros Desirae Krawczyk and Jennifer Brady, discussed Rybakina's performance and fundraising on the latest episode of their podcast. Player's Box Podcast.
Pegula started the conversation, bringing up Rybakina's strong finish to the season. Keys agreed with his compatriot. Pegula even faced Rybakina in the semifinals of the WTA Finals, so she experienced her dominance in the tournament firsthand. She was particularly admired for her service stats.
“Somebody finished their year really well. Rybakina won. She beat Aryna 6-3, 7-6 (0) in the (WTA) finals,” Pegula said.
“It's been a crazy couple of weeks,” Keys agreed.
“He hit 13 aces and won 67 percent of his first serves. He was serving like a joke,” Pegula added.
Keys also highlighted Rybakina's results ahead of the WTA Finals. Pegula explained how the Kazakh was able to claim the record prize money on offer since winning the WTA Finals while remaining unbeaten during the group stage.
“He won Ningbo, he won the semi-final in Tokyo and then he just won the year-end,” Keys said.
“And then she went undefeated. She went undefeated and makes $5.2 million,” Pegula said.
Keys jokingly commented that she was jealous of Rybakina's crazy earnings, while her co-hosts agreed with laughter. Brady suggested that Rybakina might relax in the Maldives, where most pros head in the off-season.
“We're jealous,” Keys said.
“I wonder where he's on vacation. I wonder if he's going to the Maldives with the rest of the tour,” Brady said.
Keys and Pegula also participated in the WTA Finals. The former made it to the group stage, despite abandoning their campaign due to illness after two matches, while the latter lost to Rybakina in the semifinals. Both Americans still managed to finish the season in the top 10.

Pegula won three titles this year, with the most important coming at the WTA 500 events in Charleston and Bad Homburg. She also finished as runner-up at the Miami Open and Wuhan Open, both WTA 1000 tournaments.
