Jason Kidd catches son TJ Kidd's wild shade over Cooper Flagg decision: 'It doesn't make any sense'

The Dallas Mavericks They've had a rough start, falling to 3-8 in the Western Conference. Among the many concerns, it has been one of the main points of discussion Jason Kiddthe decision to start as a beginner Cooper Flagg as a point guard, a move that even his son, TJ Kidd, seemed to criticize.

In a clip posted on X (formerly Twitter), TJ Kidd appeared on a call discussing his father's decision to start Cooper Flagg at point guard in Kyrie Irving's absence.

“No, I don't know why he's playing him as a point guard. That doesn't make any sense to me. He's not a point guard, I know that,” TJ expressed.

Continuing to question the move to play Flagg at one, TJ wished the rookie well, but still seemed to debate his father's decision.

“I think he's a great basketball player and has an incredible future ahead of him,” TJ continued. “I wish him nothing but the best down there in Dallas, but I don't get it. I don't understand the decision making of anything, but hey, you gotta control what you can control. Hang in there, buddy. Hopefully, down there, it gets better.”

Cooper Flagg has started the majority of games for the Mavs at point guard, with the rookie averaging 15.0 points, 6.8 rebounds and 3.1 assists per game in 11 appearances.

However, even after showing improvement and posting a game-high 26 points against the Bucks in his last game, Jason Kidd's decision to start Flagg at point guard continues to raise eyebrows.

The move is especially puzzling given offseason signing D'Angelo Russell is available for the draft.

NBA Insider Reveals Jason Kidd's 'Full Lineup' With Luka Doncic Trade After Nico Harrison Exit

Luka Doncic's trade to the Lakers has been against the Dallas Mavericks as the Slovenian continues to deliver in Los Angeles as his former team struggles to find wins. The Mavs' poor 3-8 start ultimately led to the firing of Nico Harrison on Tuesday.

While the blame has fallen on Harrison, NBA pundit Shams Charania revealed that coach Jason Kidd was “fully aligned” with Harrison and Dallas' higher-ups on the trade.

“At that point, though, it's important to note that there was total alignment in this organization, from ownership to Nico Harrison to his staff to coaching Jason Kidd,” Charina expressed via First Take.

After Harrison's departure, the spotlight now shifts to Jason Kidd, who has faced heavy criticism this season for his tactics and decision to use Cooper Flagg as his starting point guard.
