Former World No. 1 Fred Couples has opened up about a golf challenge he had with Tiger Woods in 2018. The American golfer appeared on this week's episode of SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio and talked about the Thanksgiving hole-in-one the 15-time major winner played seven years ago.
Ahead of 2018 Hero World ChallengeTiger and his son Charlie joined Couples for a practice round at the Madison Club in La Quinta, California. While playing the second hole, Woods made a hole-in-one. It was his first hole-in-one in 20 years.
Speaking to the story this week, Couples said Charlie was shocked after seeing his dad's impressive catch. He said:
“From 212 yards, you're not even off the tee, and you're telling your friend he's got a shot. Then we get up there, and I shut up because when there was no ball on that side of the green, Joe didn't say anything. It could have dribbled, but I just thought it was in.”
“To say he was excited was an understatement. He was crazy, but Charlie loved it. And I mean it was his first hole-in-one, I can't put words into his mouth, but he hadn't had a hole-in-one in a long time, and that was a shot,” he added.
However, in recent times, Tiger Woods has limited his golf outings. In fact, he did not play in any official PGA Tour events this season. His last outing was at The Open Championship 2024, where he struggled to make the cut.
Fans expected him to play in Hero World Challenge 2025 though will not play in the event.
Tiger Woods shares valuable advice with Kai Trump
Although Tiger Woods is not playing these days, his girlfriend, Vanessa Trump's daughter Kai, will be competing in the Annika event this week. The amateur golfer was invited with a sponsor's exemption and will play the match in the four-day tournament, which begins on Thursday, November 13.
Before the tournament, in a press conference held on Tuesday, Kai Trump shared the valuable advice he received from the 15-time major winner. She said (via ASAP Sports):
“I mean, he's the best golfer in the entire world. I'd say that. And an even better person. He told me to go out and have fun and go with the flow. Whatever happens, happens.”
Kai Trump is the daughter of Vanessa Trump and Donald Trump Jr., son of the President of the United States, Donald Trump. However, the couple split in 2018.
Tiger Woods is dating Vanessa Trump these days, and the couple went public with their relationship earlier this year in March.
