F1's penalty points system is edging closer to delivering another scalp to Ollie Bearman as the Haas driver edges ever closer to the dreaded 12-point threshold. The system that was put in place in 2014 has led to Kevin Magnussen being banned from one race in 2024.
Under the system, if a driver commits an on-track offence, they are given F1 penalty points. The number of points depends on the seriousness of the transgression. If you accumulate 12 F1 penalty points over a 1 year period, you will be banned from racing.
In the last decade or so, drivers like it Max VerstappenPierre Gasly and now Ollie Bearman have been perilously close to being banned, while Kevin Magnussen ended up touching the threshold. #1. Lando Norris
Penalty points: 3
Lando Norris has three F1 penalty points to his name which will expire in December.

#2. Oscar Piastri
Penalty points: 6
Oscar Piastri picked up a couple more in Brazil. At the moment it is six penalty points.
Two points: Causing a collision with Kimi Antonelli and Charles Leclerc at the 2025 Brazilian GP (expires 9 November 2026)
Two points: Erratic braking in front of Max Verstappen before a restart (expires 6 July 2026)
Two points: Causing a collision with Franco Colapinto at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix (expires 8 December 2025)
#3. Charles Leclerc
Penalty points: 1
Ferrari's leading driver was charged a penalty point for erratic driving while trying to defend himself George Russell in Hungary
One point: Erratic driving while defending against George Russell at F1 Hungarian GP (expires 3 August 2026)
#4. Lewis Hamilton
Penalty points: 3
The seven-time F1 champion received a penalty point for his incident with Franco Colapinto. It is now 3 points away.
One point: Causing a collision with Franco Colapinto during the 2025 F1 Brazilian GP (expires November 1, 2026)
Two points: for not slowing down under yellow flags during a reconnaissance lap before the 2025 Dutch Grand Prix (expires 31 August 2026)
#5. Max Verstappen
Penalty points: 6
While others rack up points, Verstappen seems to be going down the offender list. Max Verstappen He is now six penalty points from F1.
Three points: Causing a collision with George Russell during the 2025 F1 Spanish GP (expires 1 June 2026)
Two points: Causing a collision with Oscar Piastri at the 2024 Abu Dhabi Grand Prix (expires 8 December 2025)
One point: driving unnecessarily slowly in F1 Qatar GP 2024 qualifying (expires 1 December 2025)
#6. Yuki Tsunoda
Penalty points: 7
Yuki Tsunoda was penalized for causing a collision with Lance Stroll during the Brazilian GP and is now seven F1 penalty points.
