The latest episode of SmackDown saw feuds and storylines shift gears as Survivor Series is just days away. Several big things happened on the show last night, including the creation of WarGames and the progression of the Last Time is Now tournament. It was an action packed night in Denver, Colorado where Triple H gave the fans a delicious show.
Friday Night SmackDown has been under the radar of fans lately due to its low quality and lack of substance. However, the penultimate episode of the blue brand was different. The company ensured a memorable night that provided an adrenaline rush for the WWE Universe, cheering fans on at Survivor Series: WarGames.
Thanks for sending!
Let's take a look at four things Triple H did right on SmackDown last night:
Rhea Ripley and Asuka were without a member on their respective teams in the Women's WarGames Match. However, Triple H didn't hold back any longer and revealed the final two participants last night on SmackDown. AJ Lee officially joined the babyface team while Becky Lynch aligned herself with the heel team for Survivor Series.
The fact that WWE revealed it this week without any more teasing was really the right move. Things had already become clear and there was no point in dragging it out until next week. Also, there is only the final episode of RAW and SmackDown left before Survivor Series and revealing the final two participants will help WWE showcase a proper feud.
Carmelo Hayes struggled Bronson Reed on the last episode of SmackDown in what was the first round match of the Last Time is Now tournament. In a shocking turn of events, Hayes defeated The Auszilla via count-out. Letting the 31-year-old advance in the tournament was the right call as he desperately needed that big win more than Reed.
Melo is currently on a hot streak and is a promising name to tackle John Cena in his retirement party. Also, he's not involved in any blue brand storylines either. So, Triple H pushing him in the ongoing contest will help Carmelo Hayes be in the spotlight. His win over Bronson Reed will give him a strong boost in his current career.
One of the things Triple H did right on the last episode of SmackDown showed a significant break between Rhea Ripley and Charlotte Flair. The two superstars were at odds. WWE didn't desperately rush their storyline to get them on the same page. Instead, the company showed a gradual progression until last night.
Flair and Ripley did not hug or show redundant affection, even though they will be competing on the same team in the Women's WarGames Match. Their rift was carefully put aside for the time being and for mutual cause. So, Triple H dealing with the whole situation right was one of the best things about last night.
Cody Rhodes and Drew McIntyre the two will compete against each other in the men's WarGames match at Survivor Series. This week on SmackDown, The Scottish Warrior unleashed a brutal backstage assault on Rhodes in his truck, leaving him covered in blood. This brutal segment has elevated their rivalry to another height.
Triple H did the right thing by showing this backstage segment as it has now added more excitement to the men's WarGames match for the upcoming show. Additionally, McIntyre's attack on The American Nightmare has revealed a new layer to their heated rivalry that WWE could use to resume their singles feud after Survivor Series.
