Mohammed Siraj got into the swing of things by making the most of the new ball during the close of Day 1 of the second Test between India and South Africa in Guwahati on Saturday, November 22. The speedster dismissed Tony de Zorzi for 28 runs from 59 balls to reduce the Proteas to 246/6.
The dismissal came in the 82nd over of South Africa's first innings. Siraj landed a length ball slightly outside off that went off after the toss. Zorzi looked in two minds, putting it at the last second. India's stand-in captain Rishabh Pant darted to his left to collect it with both hands. With the wicket, Siraj also ended a 45-run partnership between de Zorzi and Senuran Muthuswamy that lasted 83 deliveries.

Mohammed Siraj took a wicket to bring India back into the game but South Africa looked flawless with the bat on Day 1. Openers Aiden Markram (38) and Ryan Rickelton (35) made a strong start before Jasprit Bumrah broke the 82-run stand before tea. Kuldeep Yadav saw the back of Rickelton immediately at the start of the second session.
Tristan Stubbs (49) and pattern Temba Bavuma (41) then stitched the highest partnership of the series, adding 84 runs for the third wicket. Ravindra Jadeja then dismissed Bavuma as Yashasvi Jaiswal completed a regulation catch before Kuldeep struck twice to remove Stubbs and Wiaan Mulder (13) in a span of six overs. Mohammed Siraj later ended the day on a positive note for the men in blue before bad lights halted play.
The Proteas lead the two-match series 1-0 after their 30-run win against India in the first Test held in Kolkata. It was their first Test win in India since their win in 2010. South Africa will now look at script history by winning the series 2-0. On the other hand, India will be looking to bounce back and level the series 1-1, avoid another series defeat at home under coach Gautam Gambhir after a 0-3 clean sweep by New Zealand.
