There have been few more powerful scorers in recent years in the Hockey National League than Toronto maple leaves captain Auston Matthews. He has won the Richard Rocket Trophy as the highest scorer in the league in three of the last four seasons.
But, after reaching 69 goals in the 2023-24 NHL season, Matthews has seen his production scoring the goals considerably this season. Through 46 games played (he lost several games with an injury), he has only scored 22 goals and is at the pace to reach only 30.
Although the score of 30 goals would be a good production for most players, it is far from what Matthews is used to scoring and knows.
“Obviously I would like to score more,” Auston Matthews said Wednesday. “I will try to stop hitting so many publications, but sometimes it is so. Just continue to shoot and continue to believe … my thing has been my thing but I like to think that I am a complete player.”
Many would defend that Matthews could attribute their fall to the score of the Defense -oriented play system that Maple Leafs, Craig Berube, emphasizing keeping the puck out of his own network instead of an offensive style of gun.
Auston Matthews and the leaves will roll the dice on Wednesday night in Las Vegas, taking the Golden Golden Knights in T-Mobile Arena.
In addition to being honest about his goals score, Matthews also made clear his thoughts in the imminent trade period. He did not make a secret about the fact that he would like to see the additions made on the list similar to the one already done by a good handful of clubs.
“This time of year, you see that teams are added and you also want to add,” added Matthews on Tuesday on a daily face. “So I'm sure the management and the staff are thinking very much right now, doing many duties and things like that, and I will leave it in their hands.”
It Tampa Bay Lightning He acquired Yanni Gourde and Oliver Bjorkstrand at the beginning of today in an agreement with the Seattle Kraken, while the Colorado Avalanche recently collected both Ryan Lindgren and Jimmy Vesey of the New York Rangers; The Edmonton Oilers acquired thirty Frederic from the Boston Bruins.
