The Spanish giants have suffered a dip in form and have managed just two wins in their last seven games between competitions. While Alonso has been criticized for his team’s recent poor showings, the players have also received their fair share of criticism, including Bellingham.
However, Gullit assured that the ex-Borussia Dortmund star has not been up to the task because he has more defensive responsibilities than other attacking players in the team.
talking BeIN Sports (via GOAL), the 63-year-old said:
“Mbappe isn’t doing much when he doesn’t have the ball. Vinicius Junior isn’t doing much, Rodrygo isn’t doing much, and a lot of others have to do double duty. Bellingham is a victim of that.”
Gullit suggested that Bellingham’s attacking influence has diminished since the departure of Toni Kroos and called Real Madrid England’s best player at the moment.
“He can’t play the same way he did when Kroos was there. When Kroos was there… they had a balance. He’s the best player they have,” he added.
Jude Bellingham missed Madrid’s games at the start of the season with a shoulder injury but has been a key figure in the manager’s set-up since his return at the end of November. In 17 appearances between competitions this term, he has contributed four goals and three assists.
Jude Bellingham has it opened up to receiving criticism from fans amid their slow start to the season and Real Madrid’s recent slump in form. The Englishman, who has faced criticism at home, has admitted he is not bothered.
Speaking after Madrid’s defeat to Manchester City, Bellingham said:
“The noise in England? That’s life. That’s what I signed up for. I play for the biggest club in the world and one of the most controlled countries in the world.” I don’t want pity. I’m living the dream. A lot of people want to be in the position I’m in. It comes with some negative people. I just roll with the punches.”
Bellingham was notably left out of the Three Lions squad during the October and November international breaks, raising eyebrows over his place in the national squad ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
