Journalist Tir Dhondy is on a mission to get to the bottom of the plot by hiding tracking devices in packages and tracking down the stolen items to confront their captors. An asteroid has hit Antarctica and melted it. For Seoul’s residents, this means a race to the highest point before the tsunami hits them all. This end-of-the-world mystery will make you wonder how long you can rest, as Kim Da-mi’s scientist Gu An-na and her son Jan-in (Kwon Eun-seong) struggle in the water. But the presence of an employee at his AI technology company, Son Hee-jo (Park Hae-soo) hints at a mysterious plot afoot. Simon Wardell

Bullet (Max Minghella, 2024), Winner +
Between the seasons of The Handmaid’s Tale, Max Minghella directed his partner Elisabeth Moss in another dystopian drama – the horrors that are about to lead to the traps in pursuit of the perfect body. Moss plays Samantha, an actress who subscribes to an anti-aging skin treatment (derived, infamously, from crabs). It’s run by 68-year-old company – though you might not know it – Zoe Shannon (Kate Hudson). In typical The Substance fashion, it all goes wrong, as the film gives up its B-movie feel and grows, hilariously silly. SW

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning (Christopher McQuarrie, 2025), 9.40am, 8pm, Sky Cinema Premiere
If this is the last we see of Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt, it will be great. The secret agent’s eighth adventure returns him to a seemingly impossible battle against the AI ​​Force the Entity, which has taken over most of the world’s nuclear power. But the ins and outs of the plot are close to the point when you get to witness exciting scenes like Ethan jumping into a sunken Russian submarine or a stand-up fight on a biplane. Arguably the best scene yet, as the US military and politicians are once again given the comic relief that Ethan has broken the law over the years, including all of his friends who have died in the process. It’s an excellent explanation of the absurdity of the whole M:I business – and why we love it. SW
