64th over: England 210-6 (Smith 5, Jacks 11) Jamie Smith uses his feet to Lyon’s second ball and collects three runs to get England going for the day. Good goal from Smith, he is playing badly today. He has been surprisingly calm on the tour so far, he is a quiet kid but his batting is often confident. We haven’t seen anything from him and questions are being asked about his place in the side. He’s not the only one. Jacks block everything else. Australia have 16 overs to the new ball, they may not want to.
It’s not good in Adelaide but the players are coming on the field and we will start on time. Jamie Smith and Will Jacks will go to the middle, Nathan Lyon will start with the ball. Once again on the break… let’s play!
“Besides his fun time with the willow, shout out to Zac Crawley for his brilliant interview yesterday.” Written by Sarah Benton. “Even this Aussie-in-Ingerland can see him doing well in the dinner area in the future.”
“Until the last man is out, there is still hope in England.” Writes Andrew Benton. “What’s next? Maybe England will win the next two and it will be a respectable 3:2 scoreline. Maybe the headlines will start on Monday. But it’s all over soon.”
Will the 3-2 result be too disappointing for England fans? If he suddenly starts playing like we know he could be under pressure and the series is gone it will make what we have seen so far even more dangerous.
Geoff Lemon wrote an ode to the beautiful Pat Cummins:
“England fans will spend four years until their team returns to reflect on what the game looks like, including an unfortunate assessment of their players’ ability to adapt to what’s happening in Australia. Cummins spent five months in training and the nets without seeing the center of the pitch again, going on what would have been months of coming back in a few months, when he hadn’t had a match yet.”
“We’re keeping our eye on the barrel, so it’s disappointing. But we’re not going to give up.”
Zak Crawley spoke candidly last night:
“Then, enter Brook, who is on the inside, the whole Test operation was built around this government, and he seems to be fighting World War II from within the small police force.” Brook and Crawley were forcing the bowlers to survive. The end of the day was beginning to appear. This was England’s best batting in the series.
Barney Ronay complained about the latest brain teaser from Harry Brook:
“There was a time when English players used words like “the faster, the betterBut he was tasked with a world record 435 runs to help Australia win the Ashes series at the earliest, one would think it was not said on Saturday.
Instead, taking six wickets cheaply in the first over to set up an unlikely challenge of five overs, it was clear where they would end up with stumps on the fourth day. The score was 207 for six from 63 overs which, despite progressing on this erratic tour, means that Australia will enter the final day of the third Test near an unassailable 3-0 lead.

And finally, a the love you receive is equal to the love you make the results you get are the same as your performance in the game where it counts. In the eye of the storm and the heat of the tension, against well-drilled and brutal enemies who won’t give you an inch. In the end, it only took 11 days.
Australia will win the Ashes today in Adelaide. It may take a few minutes, it may take a few hours, but it will happen. It’s been great, England has been a lot of things but mostly with knocks, broken, very disappointing.
It’s been raining in Adelaide but the pitches are off and the midfielders are walking. England resume on 207-6 and need 228 more runs from the remaining four wickets to keep their Ashes hopes alive. It’s not happening people. With respect and apologies to Will Jacks, Jamie Smith and the rest of the underdogs, I will swallow a whole laptop if they come within 100 runs of the 435 target.
So much so that you don’t get stuck, drop me a line if you’re planning these last rites. Play starts in just 30 minutes. The end is near, the urn is Australia (almost).
