ONE Championship: “Nothing goes wrong”

Jonathan ‘The General’ Haggerty, like many, finds it increasingly unfathomable how six-foot-four-inch Muay Thai fighter Nabil Anane continues to pack weight into his fights.

Anane currently competes in bantamweight and is the reigning Muay Thai bantamweight ONE world champion. Not long ago, he was also a flyweight mainstay, and when asked if he could return to that weight class, Anane remains confident that he can.

Haggerty recently caught up with the Bangkok Post’s Nick Atkin and says that Anane is an enigma. And he sees no need for the Algerian-Thai phenom to move up to featherweight anytime soon.

‘The General’ said:

“I mean, look, whatever weight class he goes into, he’s going to have a height advantage, a reach advantage, so it doesn’t really matter. But I can see why people say that, but he’s obviously making weight, so there’s nothing wrong with him. He’s not losing weight, so why does he have to go up?”

Haggerty he is currently recovering from a torn rotator cuff. He was scheduled to face Anane for Muay Thai gold last month before falling through with injury. It remains to be seen when that fight will be rescheduled, although both sides remain interested.

Jonathan Haggerty offers more praise for Nabil Anane

For Jonathan ‘The General’ Haggerty, Nabil Anane is more than his odd size and length. The British superstar believes Anane has the ability to back up his God-given physical gifts.

He told Nick Atkin:

“I think yeah, he’s come on in leaps and bounds, so to speak. Yeah, 100 percent. I’ve seen that. Obviously, I feel like he’s grown a lot better in his body. He’s grown in weight class. Yeah, he’s definitely improved, that’s why he’s been beating all these top fighters, so we’re ready to get it.”
