Penn State is one step closer to reaching the College Football Playoff.

6 Nittany Lions defeated No. 3 Boise State 31-14 in Tuesday's Fiesta Bowl, punching a ticket to the Orange Bowl and the CFP semifinals.

Penn State appeared to be on the road to victory after taking a 14-0 lead on its first two drives, but the Broncos didn't go down without a fight. He scored on the final possession of the second quarter to make it a seven game lead before the Nittany Lions scored on a field goal early in the period.

Boise State was reeling in the second half, opening the third quarter with a big drive that ended with a 53-yard touchdown pass. Penn State quickly clawed back those points, however, taking a 24-14 lead into the final frame.

The Broncos had some strong drives in the fourth quarter, but none ended with points. He had one drive and another field goal missed and Penn State went on an empty-net drive, taking a 31-14 lead on a 58-yard run from Nick Singleton.

Singleton finished with 87 rushing yards and a touchdown while his quarterback, Kaytron Allen, had 135 yards on the ground.

From there, a Boise State touchdown helped seal the victory for the Nittany Lions.

Boise State star running back Ashton Jeanty had a good game, putting up 104 yards on the ground, but it was limited by what we've seen him do this year. After handling the ball all year, he struggled in the first half before making things happen in the second half.

If he had found his game gone earlier, things could have turned out differently, but in the end Penn State's defense was too much for the Broncos.

After the game, fans cheered on Penn State as they watched the national championship.

Boise State had three drives that went inside the Penn State 30-yard line and came away with a score of zero.
They're down by 10. That was there to stay. He couldn't finish.

The Nittany Lions now have a date set with the No. 2 Georgia or No. 7 Notre Dame. The two teams will face off in the Sugar Bowl on Wednesday.

No matter who Penn State gets, it will be a tough game, but the Nittany Lions showed on Tuesday that they have what it takes to make the playoffs.
