The Helmut Marko of Red Bull feels a podium is the best result than Max verstappen You can wait for the F1 Spanish GP, as McLaren seems to have too much reserve for Sunday. The weekend of the race in Barcelona has seen the implementation of the technical directive of the FIA that limits the oscillation of Flexi Wing.
It was expected to have an impact on McLaren, as the reigning champions have been the pioneers when it comes to flexi-wings in current regulations. Red Bull, on the other hand, has gathered more or less a limited solution for its cars, and it was not expected that the directive had any impact on them.
Arriving in Barcelona, it was expected that the quick speed nature would help Red Bull and Max Verstappen, as he had done in Imola, where the Dutch pilot won the race and disputed the Pole's position. This time, McLaren seems to have a decent lead with respect to the pursuit package, and the two drivers blocked the front row.
When speaking of the classification of Max Verstapen and what he could expect from the race, Helmut Marko heard that Red Bull had taken a step forward compared to the reigning champion, but the gap was still large enough to prevent him from playing a victory. Told Sky Sports,
“Balance was more satisfactory this time. It's only that the tires and highest temperatures, less grip we have.
Added,
“We can't be optimistic for the race … but a podium should be at least possible.”
Max Verstappen believes that the third place was the best he could have done with the Red Bull under him. The first run of the Dutch driver had seen him half a second of the reference, and was only in his second lap that united everything. Speaking with Alex Brundle at the Live Telecast after the session, the driver admitted that this was the best thing he could have done with the car. Said,
“We lacked all weekend compared to them (McLaren). We have executed well. The third is where we should be more or less. It's fun. It is here to do it -everything out of the car.”
Winning from outside the Pole's position is something that does not often happen in Barcelona, but the last pilot he did -Max Versappen was in 2016, and this time he also hoped to make something similar.
