Gael Monfils stunned Taylor Fritz in four sets.

The 38-year-old Frenchman continued his comeback in Melbourne with a four-set triumph over the No. 4 seed who came from behind.

Fritz came to Melbourne as America's biggest threat to win the men's singles title, and through two rounds he looked to fit the role with a pair of straight wins.

Instead, Fritz heads home and Monfils is in the fourth round of a Grand Slam for the second time since the start of 2021.

Monfils will face another American, 21st seed Ben Shelton, in the fourth round. Shelton is a two-time quarterfinalist on hard court, and made his breakthrough two years ago in Australia by reaching the final.

Shelton is the only seed left in his quarter of the draw. American student Tien is one of three unseeded men left in the area.

Tien followed up on Daniil Medvedev with a straight sets win on Saturday. In the fourth round, he plays against Lorenzo Sonego.

Alex Michelsen, the other unseeded American remaining in the draw, has a huge fourth-round matchup against No. 8 seed Alex De Minaur.

Michelsen will look for his third win over a top-20 player in four rounds against the hometown favorite.

Top seed Jannik Sinner once again avoided chaos with a three-set victory that set up a fourth-round clash with 13th seed Holger Rune.

Sinner is considered the clear favorite to reach the final from the first half of the men's draw.
