Detroit Lions right tackle Penei Sewell didn't know why quarterback Jared Goff was being blamed for Saturday's 45-31 loss to the Washington Commanders.

“That's bulls–t,” Sewell told reporters after the game. “I don't understand how team sports work, people can blame one person. It's not the one who is alone. So, I will not understand. But again, this is not for me. The world is what I look at.”

Goff certainly struggled in the loss, completing 23-of-40 for 313 yards and a touchdown to go along with three interceptions. This included a pick six that allowed Washington to take a 10-point lead in the second quarter.

He also had a fumble in the first quarter.

However, Detroit's offense went on to pass for 521 yards and average 7.7 yards per play as it tried to claw its way back into the game after a 31-21 halftime deficit.

Defensive errors prevented the Lions from taking the lead in the second quarter, as they were unable to stop Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels. The rookie signee completed 71 percent of his throws for 299 yards and two touchdowns without throwing an interception. Daniels has also never been taken down once.

Washington was huge on the ground, rushing for 182 yards and three scores as a team.

The Lions earned the No. 1 seed in the NFC with a 15-2 record, but their season came to an end without making a second straight playoff appearance.

Goff's struggles contributed to Saturday night's big loss, but Sewell doesn't believe the veteran passer was the only loser.
