20 -year -old Estonian fan makes history with the Open Championship qualification


The 2025 open championship will begin on July 17 in Royal Portrush. The twenty -year -old amateur golfers, Richard Teder, qualified for the prestigious tournament dramatically after firing a phenomenal eagle during the final classification round.

Teder, now occupying the 91st place in the world golf fans rankings, competed in the standings in West Lancashire, Liverpool. He had a head to start in the final hole with a 7-less. However, a disastrous double stroke of the hole dropped it to a 5-less, forcing him to a four-by-two playoff against three professional golfers.

Still determined to show his capacity, Richard Teder regained the moment during the Playoff. He sealed the agreement by eliminating his second shot in the Playoff Third Foht for an eagle, which sent the crowd to a frantic celebration. The phenomenal victory makes him the first Estonian in history to reach the Open Championship.

The Estonian amateur said about his historical achievement (through Golf Digest):

“It is not real to have been described for the Open. It feels like a dream. I knew the putt on 18 to make the playoff so important; it is not over until it was over, as they say. I'm glad he has done the putt.”

“I couldn't believe that the shot came in during the playoff; it only disappeared. It's an incredible feeling. Everyone dreams of playing a big one. I didn't think I would never have to play in a bigger, but here I am!” Added.

Richard Teder won the Estonian game and was second in the Amateur Open of Estonia this year. He also competed in the recently concluded amateur championship, sitting in fifth place. By 2024, the 20 -year -old fan dominated the Letona Amateur Open Championship and also won the National Play National Championship in Estonia.

Last year, the Open Championship was held at the Royal Troon Golf Club in Scotland and new PGA Tour winner Xander Schauffele Won the tournament. Schauffele, who also won the PGA championship that same year, dominated Royal Troon with a 275 of 95.

The great big champion won the prestigious tournament twice, ahead of Billy Horschel and Justin Rose, the runner -up. By 2023, Brian Harman claimed victory, while by 2022, Cameron Smith won.
