The F1 confirmed that in 2026 it will have six Sprint races throughout the season, with four new additions for the event, as Silverstone sets an amazing return to the new race format. China and Miami will continue to host Sprint races this season.
Formula 1 sprint format was introduced in the 2021 season and Silverstone was one of the first places to host the race. Since then, the format has undergone a few changes, and is now hitting two of the three practice sessions over the weekend, replacing them by the Sprint rating and the sessions of the Sprint Race, before the main race on Sunday.
Unlike previously, the result of the Sprint race does not affect the network for the main race, since its initial order is decided by a different qualification session.
It is planned to increase vision and excitement, the Sprint format will again be again six races in the 2026 season, to know China, USA (Miami), Canada, Britain, Netherlands and Singapore.
This would be the last time Zandvoort houses a F1 Grand Prix The weekend, as the organizers did not expand their contract from 2027. Singapore is a new addition to the Sprint format, with China and Miami maintaining their slots just like this season, as mentioned.
The first Sprint race of the 2026 season will take place in the second week of March in China and the last will be held in October in Singapore. Here is the full calendar of the weekends of the Grand Prix that will host the six sprint races next year:
As mentioned, Formula 1 has been pushing for Sprint races due to the increase in vision it provides. CEO Stefano Domenicali stated that having twice the competitive sessions for a weekend has helped not only the sport with more vision, but also the broadcasters.
“The Sprint F1 has continued to grow in positive impact and popularity since it was introduced in 2021,” said Damenicali in a statement. “With four competitive sessions instead of two for a conventional weekend of the Grand Prix, Sprint F1 events offer more actions every day for our fans, dissemination members and promoters, promoting assistance and the largest vision.”
He also revealed Gatorade, A sports theme drink will be associated with Formula 1 for Sprint races in the 2026 season.
“We are also proud to have welcomed Gatorade as an official F1 Sprint partner, demonstrating the enormous interest in the event of an iconic global brand.”
These will be the first Sprint races under the new regulations of Formula 1 of the 2026 season. The regulations will experience a significant change in car aerodynamics and the energy unit, which is expected to provide more competition on the network.
