Kiefer Sherwood opens on the first challenge in his relationship with the woman Ariela for his allergies


This week, Vancouver Canucks Striker Kiefer Sherwood and his wife Ariela opened about his family life in the new “Going Home” video series. In a feature film segment, Kiefer admitted that one of his biggest battles came to the first days of his relationship with Ariela and was against his dog.

He shared that he grew allergic to dogs, a problem that appeared rapidly when he and Ariela began to leave and met his pet Luca.

“I would not trust them to be used to, and it is a little fun. At the beginning of our relationship, I liked:” I will be me or the dog “because my allergies were so bad when I was around him,” he recalled with a laugh.

Sherwood now calls the part of the family's dog and shared that they created a new game together this summer.

“It's funny how things are coming, because it is now like a child, and he has so much personality and would not have it otherwise.”

“This is a game we created this summer where a jump, I feel like the quarterback and it is the wide receiver.”

Ariela added that Sherwood shows a very different side at home explaining that, while fans see his passionate ice style, he is much quieter and more affectionate at home and especially with Luca.

Early this summer, Kiefer Sherwood and Ariela Smith tied the knot In Cherub Garden inside the Stonepine estate in Carmel Valley, California. The wedding, held on July 26, 2025, was formalized by Sherwood's friend and former teammate at Miami University Karch Bachman.

The highlight of the ceremony was his dog Luca, who served as a rings carrier with a tuxedo pass. Ariela Smith went down the hallway to a violin presentation of Taylor Swift's “Enchanted” and the couple exchanged handwritten votes.

The reception followed with a romantic theme with swans, cherubs, chandeliers and ties. The couple shared their first dance at the “Young and Beautiful” by Lana del Rey and the celebration continued at Ferrer's bar with a DJ and the snacks at night.

Sherwood and Smith have been together for at least four years after being known through mutual friends. They dedicated themselves in August 2024 during a trip to the Turks and Caicos Islands, where Sherwood proposed to the Amanyara complex. Smith shared visits of his life and travels to Instagram, including moments of Pre-Cased Celebrations and dress shopping in New York City.
