'GET THESE REFEREES OFF IMMEDIATELY' – Chael Sonnen hilariously reacts to NHL player brawl during New York Rangers vs San Jose Sharks game

While as a former MMA fighter, Chael Sonnen enjoys a good old fashioned brawl, he seems to want order to prevail in regular team sports. Footage of NHL players Matt Rempe and Ryan Reaves locked in a prolonged physical altercation on the court appears to have caught Sonnen by surprise.

Today at Madison Square Garden, the San Jose Sharks picked up their first NHL win of the season, beating the New York Rangers 6-5. Although the two teams are not traditional rivals, tempers flared during the match, with two players involved engage in violent hand-to-hand combat.

In footage now making the rounds on social media, Rangers center Rempe and Sharks right wing Reaves can be seen lunging at each other, with the players' helmets flying as they landed the blows.

In any case, the referees let the altercation continue without interruption and only separated the pair after more than half a minute. Interestingly, though, to some so-called “The Bad,” Sonnen doesn't seem to have enjoyed the nastiness and hasn't written again:

“Absolute crime with the officials watching. GET those refs off immediately. The boys don't want to fight. They want it broken.”

Check out Chael Sonnen's response to the Matt Rempe and Ryan Reaves feud below:

At 6-foot-9, Rempe has gained notoriety for his aggressive style of play, positioning himself as a well-known enforcer of modern execution. The 6-foot-2 Reaves are known for never shying away from a good fight, often fighting to protect teammates.

After the win, the Sharks are in second place in the Pacific Division standings, with the Rangers sitting at No. 6 in the Metropolitan Division.

When Chael Sonnen hit the NFL with his explosive outings

It looks like the NHL isn't the only sports league that Chael Sonnen wants to implement changes, the NFL is as well. The former UFC star isn't particularly a fan of all the pomp and show of football outings.

During an appearance in 2017 a The Rich Eisen ShowThe 48-year-old took a swipe at the NFL's exits, urging them to take a more composed approach similar to other notable sports:

“If I were to go into football, it would change so many things, down to the way they get on the field. There's no sport in the world where an athlete behaves like that; it's basic biology. Anything that's red can only cool down. Any good athlete from LeBron (James), to Tiger (Woods), to (Floyd, O'me they say) where you use your energy.” (0.03 seconds into the interview)
