After a 5-3 record in the 2025 season, LSU officially fired their head coach Brian Kelly after four years. His journey at Louisiana State was a tumultuous one where he struggled to replicate his success at Notre Dame and other schools.
Despite having a star quarterback in Garret Nussmeier, Kelly failed in his strategy where the team could not create enough turnovers or make plays inside the opponent's territory.
Now, LSU is on the hunt for a new coach to lead the team, and several prospects are caught up in that conversation. ancient Ohio State Coach Urban Meyer's name was recently linked to the top job; however, it appears the legend is no longer interested in standing on the sidelines and calling plays through a headset.

While speaking with Kellyanne Stitts of Cleveland – TV, Meyer mentioned that he has no interest in any coaching job at this time.
“I have no desire,” Meyer said Friday as he emphasized how coaches like Brian Hartline could step up and prove their worth as full-time head coaches.

“I'm a big fan of Brian Hartline, always have been, and he just needed the experience (as CO). I'm glad he stayed (at OSU), that he had the opportunity to leave and that he learned from us and from (Buckeyes head) coach (Ryan) Day, and I think he's ready,” Meyer added in his suggestion.
After a brief tenure of over 18 years as a head coach with various franchises and programs, Meyer said goodbye to the world of football coaching in 2018. He cited health reasons as a factor in his move. These days, he mostly spends time on podcasts as a full-time panelist.
Kelly's firing has been a decisive move in football circles, especially after his continued struggles to lead LSU to a College Football Playoff berth.
Pollack, who was analyzing the current situation, stated that Kelly could fit in very well at Penn State or Arkansas; both schools need a new coach.
“I would hire Brian Kelly at Arkansas. We're actually taking the SEC out. I'd be more inclined to hire Brian Kelly at Penn State because that might be a better fit. Brian Kelly is a great football coach that's proven that over a long time,” Pollack said on the See Ball Get Ball podcast this week.
With just four weeks left in the season, it will be interesting to see if Kelly gets another chance. He is set to earn up to $54 million as part of his buyout clause following his recent firing.
