With his brilliant performance in Boston, he now joined his brother Wesley as the winner of the Boston Marathon. Wesley won the race in April 2012 with a time of 2:12:40. As a first couple of brothers to win the Boston Marathon, we know more about the most recent and old champions of the oldest annual marathon in the world.
John Korir He was born on December 2, 1996 in Kitale, Kenya, while older brother Wesley was born on November 15, 1982. Wesley attended the University of Louisville. His wife's name is Tarah and they have four children. One of her daughters is McKayla, who is also a runner and currently in high school.
John Korir also took third place in the 2022 Chicago Marathon and was lost closely at the podium places Boston in 2024 and Chicago by 2023 finishing fourth in both elite races. In July 2024, he won the Boilermaker Road race in the 15 km category, with 42:11. He is a winner of the Los Angeles Marathon twice.
Wesley in the meantime was second in 2011 Chicago Marathon With a 2:06:15, only behind the compatriot Moses Mosop who ran 2:05:37 to break the course record.
In addition to being a marathon runner, Wesley also served as a politician and was a member of the Kenya Parliament. In an interview from 2014 before directing his first Canadian marathon to Ottawa, he reflected on why he wanted to pursue politics, saying:
“I think I have always known that leadership is my call and running is my talent. I wanted to use the two to help people. What has been important for me in my life is to return to the community and help the less lucky ones, the way they helped me when I grew up. So I decided that to help people more, I needed to go to leadership.”
In 2017, Wesley Korir ran in the election again to keep his position, but lost to Joshua Kutuny.
