Andrade wins a major title outside of AEW

Shortly after returning to AEW earlier this year, Andrade found himself sidelined due to a legal situation with WWE. While his path back to the Jacksonville-based company is still unclear, El Idolo just captured another championship, this time in a major promotion in Puerto Rico.

Andrade’s disappearance from AEW programming following his return to the company at the sixth anniversary edition of Dynamite was followed by reports claiming that WWE had sent All Elite Wrestling a cease and desist letter. Allegedly, this was done because the former NXT Champion had apparently violated the terms of his year-long non-compete clause, which had been in effect when the star had been fired due to multiple “welfare violations.”

During a recent interview, the fighter clarified that he was involved in legal talks with WWE to resolve their contract dispute. Negotiations are still ongoing, however has yielded some positive results recentlysince El Idolo was able to perform for the Puerto Rican promotion World Wrestling Council. This Saturday, Andrade wrestled and dethroned Xavant for the WWC Universal Heavyweight Championship.

Prior to his legally imposed hiatus, the former La Sombra had also become The Crash World Heavyweight Champion by defeating DMT Azul last October.

During his appearance in The Ariel Helwani Show last month, Tony Khan discussed Andrade amid the latter’s legal situation with WWE. The AEW boss praised El Idolo, stating that he was “thrilled” to have him back in the company, noting that he would keep an eye on the star’s conditionand stating that the latter was welcome back to All Elite Wrestling as long as he is available.

“I had a great experience with him and he left on the best terms. And now when he said he was free and he showed up one night, I was excited to see him again. Whenever he’s free, whenever he is, he’s absolutely welcome… It’s an interesting situation that I’ll be watching, but I absolutely believe the world of Andrade El Idolo,” said Khan El Idolo.
