Arizona State couldn't have asked for much from Cam Skattebo on Wednesday.
The star running back had 30 carries for 143 yards and two touchdowns on the ground while hauling in eight receptions for 99 yards in the 39-31 loss. On top of that, he threw a 42-yard pass on a trick play in the fourth quarter.
The heavy workload took its toll on Skattebo, however. He was seen on ESPN broadcasting on the sideline in the third quarter between possessions. However, he continued to play to keep the Sun Devils in the game and eventually helped force a long run.
On ESPN Max OlsonSkattebo said he drank a lot of water but felt better after vomiting.
“That's where it all started,” Skattebo said. “I had a difficult first half, and I didn't feel good. The second half, it was a different ball.”
Arizona State coach Kenny Dillingham joked about Skattebo's effort after the game.
“Puke is gathering,” Dillingham said.
A stellar game from Skattebo earned him the Peach Bowl offensive MVP award despite the Suns coming up short.
“He's a special player,” Dillingham said. “It's just Cam. That's what I expected, really. When you give him the ball, crazy things happen.”
Skattebo's senior career is now over and he will focus on the NFL draft this spring. The Sacramento State transfer finished the 2024 season with 1,711 rushing yards and 21 touchdowns on the ground along with 605 receiving yards and three touchdowns through the air.
