Ben Shelton sends an emotional message to Father Bryan as American stays of what he did 31 years ago in Wimbledon arriving at QF


North -American tennis player Ben Shelton sent a heart message for his father, Bryan, after qualifying in the quarterfinals of Wimbledon 2025. He won a victory over Lorenzo Sonego in four sets during the 16th round of the tournament.

Shelton faced a setback soon after losing the first set 3-6, but returned strong to win the next three seven and win the game 3-6, 6-1, 7-6 (7-1), 7-5. This also achieved its first appearance at Wimbledon Quarterfinals. Shelton then was asked about his inspiration to play the grass tracks.

In response to this, he spoke of his father, who is also a former tennis player and coach, and was also present on the stands to see his son play. Shelton mentioned that his father played in the round of 16 of the tournament several years ago (1994) and is one of the inspirations behind his play style in Grass. Said (during his interview on the court):

“ My father definitely. He was in the 16 -year -old round 31 years ago, giving or taking. He had a great service, he advanced all the time and he would like to see me move forward more than me.My argument is that I think I'm better than him from the base line and he had a better service than I may. So, he inspired me how to play grass. ''

The 22 -year -old American will face Jannik Sinner or Grigor Dimitrov in his next round, scheduled to take place on Wednesday, July 9.

Ben Shelton comments on the interpretation against Lorenzo Sonego

Ben Shelton expressed his thoughts to play against Lorenzo Sonego in Wimbledon 2025. The North -American said that his time on the court with Sonego was difficult, especially because the latter's competition occurs at great times.

He also expressed his admiration for playing on the court and added (through the BBC):

“It was difficult. I feel like every time I play Lorenzo Sonego, every time I need a big point he goes out with a prominent shot. Maybe he is also the same vice versa. It was a lot of fun. I am very comfortable here on the court, I love to play in front of you.”

Especially Ben Shelton I had the best of Sonego at H2H (3-1) before the game, which is now 4-1 in favor of the American. His last game before this 16 -game Wimbledon round was in the first round of Roland Garros in 2025, where Shelton won in five sets.
