Carlos Alcaraz shows he's fully recovered from demoralizing Paris defeat with cheeky comment at ATP Finals

Carlos Alcaraz joked about his surprise in the early days of the Paris Masters before the appearance of the ATP Finals in Turin. The Spaniard lost in the second round at the final Masters 1000 event of the season.

Alcaraz played in the Paris Masters last week and faced a surprising finish. The world No. 1 faced Cameron Norrie in his first match of the campaign and was dismissed by the Briton 6-4, 3-6, 4-6. This came after he was on an 18-match winning streak in all ATP Tour matches.

Days later, while preparing for the ATP Finals, Alcaraz was congratulated on one of his previous titles by a player on court. They also added:

– I didn't see you in Paris.

Alcaraz responded hilariously:

“Well, I didn't last long either… Paris at this time of year is not our thing.”

Paris, however, has been much more rewarding for the Spaniard in June. Alcaraz has won back-to-back French Open titles on the city's clay courts and also won the silver medal at the Paris Olympic Games last august

His response indicates that he has moved on from the disappointing loss at the Paris Masters. The 22-year-old will be looking to make an impact at the upcoming ATP Finals.

Carlos Alcaraz has qualified for the Jimmy Connors Group at the Nitto ATP Finals 2025 in Turin. will face Novak DjokovicTaylor Fritz and Alex de Minaur in the Round Robin stage. Jannik Sinner, Alexander Zverev, Ben Shelton and Felix Auger-Aliassime, or Lorenzo Musetti, will be part of the Bjorn Borg group.

This year, Alcaraz has enjoyed an outstanding season. He has collected two major titles, the French Open and the US Open. He also picked up key Masters 1000 wins and has maintained one of the best win-loss records on tour.

Carlos Alcaraz has played twice in the ATP Finals. He reached the semi-final in 2023 and was kicked out of the event at the Round Robin stage last year.

The group and the tournament are more important because the year-end #1 ranking is still up for grabs. Sinner must defend his ATP Finals title to stay in contention for the year-end No. 1 ranking, but the outcome also depends on Alcaraz's results.

If Sinner wins the undefeated title, Alcaraz needs to win all of his group matches to remain No. 1. If Sinner drops a group match, Alcaraz needs two group wins. If Sinner somehow wins the title after going 1-2 in the group stage, Alcaraz only needs one group win. Overall, Alcaraz remains in a stronger position to finish.
