Despite the suspension of the Sugar Bowl by one day, no changes will be made to the final College Football Playoff schedule.
CFP CEO Rich Clark broke the news to ESPN's Heather Dinich On Friday, he says:
“We're not going to change the game. The concession we made with athletic officials was to start the Sugar Bowl earlier – an 18-hour delay or more. The teams, coaches, staff, fans and other stakeholders at NOLA and the Sugar Bowl were incredible.
The Sugar Bowl CFP quarterfinal between Notre Dame and Georgia was originally scheduled for Wednesday at 8:45 pm ET, but was moved to Thursday at 4 pm ET after a suspect drove a pickup truck into a crowd on Bourbon Street in New Orleans. In the early hours of New Year's Day, killing 15 people and injuring many others.
Seventh-ranked Notre Dame defeated No. 2 Georgia 23-10 to advance to the CFP semifinals where they will face Penn State in the Orange Bowl on Jan. 9. Another semifinal between Ohio State and Texas will be played a day later at the Cotton Bowl on Jan. 10.
