Ty Gibbs has learned from his past mistakes and put on a selfless act at Talladega Superspeedway, helping teammate Chase Briscoe secure his spot in the Championship Four race. The second race of the round of eight, the YellaWood 500, was held on the 2.66-mile tri-oval track on Sunday, October 19, and Joe Gibbs Racing showed its dominance in the race.
Briscoe had a good qualifying session and qualified second for the 193-lap race. He completed the superspeedway lap with a lap time of 52.50 seconds and a best speed of 182.40 mph. He lost several positions and finished the first stage in 21st, but quickly recovered in the second, securing the stage win. After the overtime restart, Hendrick Motorsports drivers Kyle Larson and William Byron were leading the race.
However, Larson ran out of fuel and Bubba Wallace made a move, taking the lead. After that, Chase Briscoe got the better of Wallace with help from teammate Ty Gibbs. The No. 54 Toyota Camry XSE driver pushed the 23XI Racing driver and gave Briscoe a chance to win the race. Reflecting on Gibbs' last-minute maneuver, Briscoe praised his teammate, stating (as of 00:50):
“I don't really know what happened there in the bottom lane, but I was able to push Bubba far enough, then I was able to make a move and the 54 came with me.”
“(Ty Gibbs) was the reason I won the race. He was extremely committed from the start, he did a good job of keeping up so Bubba could keep pushing him. And then when I made my move, he went with me, unselfish about going for his first win, he easily tried something different, he pushed me, an amazing team effort,” Ty added.
Chase Briscoe became the second driver to secure his spot in Championship Race Four. His teammate Denny Hamlin was the first to get a seat in the Phoenix race. After that, JGR playoff qualified driver Christopher Bell leads the playoff points table with a buffer of 37 points.
In early September 2025, Joe Gibbs Racing drivers Denny Hamlin and Ty Gibbs had an intense moment during the Mobil 1 301 held at New Hampshire Speedway. After that, Dale Jr.. Gibbs shouted on his podcast, the Download Dale Jrand gave his verdict on the controversy.
The #11 Toyota driver qualified ninth for the main event, while Gibbs started the race from 13th. After a decent start, on lap 110 of the 301-lap race, both JGR the drivers went neck-and-neck for 11th place. As they exited the fourth quarter, they made contact and Gibbs spun onto the court. The showdown left Hamlin fuming with the No. 54 Camry XSE driver.
Reflecting on the incident, Dale Jr. shared his perspective and he stated:
“Was it necessary for Denny to drive him into the wall? Yeah, probably not. But damn, I have to look at Ty (Gibbs') history. He hasn't been a great teammate at times.”
After the spin, Ty Gibbs' day ended with a DNF, while Denny Hamlin finished the main event in 12th, affecting his playoff ranking. Meanwhile, Team Penske driver Ryan Blaney won the 301-lap race.
