Coco Gauff, Jessica Pegula, Aryna Sabalenka & Co. they strive in the battle for the Final 4 spot

The WTA Finals welcomes the world's best players to Riyadh this week. The first few days of the event have met expectations so far.

Coco Gauff is this year's reigning champion. She is part of the Stefanie Graf group alongside Aryna Sabalenka, Jessica Pegula and Jasmine Poalini.

Pegula and Sabalenka started their campaigns on a positive note in Riyadh. While the American outlasted Gauff in three sets, Sabalenka defeated Paolini 6-3, 6-1.

With semifinal spots up for grabs on day four, we look at the possible scenarios and matches lined up at the WTA Finals.

Day four of the WTA finals: possible scenarios

Aryna Sabalenka and Jessica Pegula are among the favorites to qualify for the semifinals. With Sablenka coming off a straight sets win over Paolini, another straight sets win over Pegula will confirm her place in the last four.

Meanwhile, Gauff and Paolini will compete in a do-or-die encounter in the next round. The duo recently competed in the Wuhan Open semifinals, where the American came out on top.

Also, if Pegula upsets Sabalenka and Gauff wins her match against Paolini, the Belarusian will play a knockout match against Gauff for a spot in the quarterfinals.

In short, if Paolini loses in straight sets, she will be eliminated from the WTA Finals. Any other result will keep players' chances alive for the next series of rounds.

Elena Rybakina and Iga Swiatek set to qualify from Group 1 at WTA Finals

Iga Swiatek, Elena Rybakina, Madison Keysand Amanda Anisimova are in Group 1 this year. Rybakina and Swiatek are in pole position to qualify for the next round.

After beating Keys in straight sets, Swiatek was unable to tip the scales in her favor against Rybakina. The Kazakh defeated her in three sets, 3-6, 6-1, 6-0.

Meanwhile, Ansimova began her campaign with a hard-fought loss against Rybakina. He then defeated Keys in the next bout and needs a win against Swiatek to get into the last four.

In short, Rybakina has qualified and Keys has been eliminated from the WTA Finals. Anisimova and Swiatek will meet for a place in the semi-finals on Wednesday.
