The much-awaited T20 World Cup 2026 schedule was announced on Tuesday, November 25. The ICC tournament will feature 20 teams and will be played from February 7 to March 8. The mega event will be co-hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Chennai's famous MA Chidambaram Stadium (Chepauk) has been set as one of the venues for the tournament and will host seven matches.
The first match of T20 World Cup 2026 to be held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai will be a Group D clash between New Zealand and Afghanistan on February 8. The Kiwis next face the United Arab Emirates on February 10. Additionally, the United States of America will face the Netherlands in a Group A match on February 13. The United States will also face Namibia on February 15.
Two more Group D matches of the T20 World Cup 2026 will be played in MA Chidambaram Stadium. New Zealand will face Canada on February 17, while Afghanistan will face Canada on February 19. Chepauk will also host a Super 8 Group 1 match (X1 vs. X2) on February 26.
Below is the complete list of T20 World Cup 2026 matches to be played at Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
February 8: Match 4, New Zealand v Afghanistan, Group D (11am)
February 10: Match 11, New Zealand v United Arab Emirates, Group D (3pm)
February 13: Match 21, USA – Netherlands, Group A (19:00)
February 15: Match 26, United States of America – Namibia, Group A (15:00)
February 17: match 31, new zealand vs. Canada, Group D (11:00)
February 19: Match 39, Afghanistan – Canada, Group D (19:00)
February 26: game 48, Super 8 Group 1 (X1 vs X2) (19:00)
The 20 teams participating in the T20 World Cup 2026 have been divided into four groups of five each. After 40 games in the group stage, the top two teams in each group will qualify for the Super Eights, which begin on February 21. The top four teams from the Super Eights will qualify for the playoffs.
The rankings for the Super Eights are as follows: India (X1), Australia (X2), West Indies (X3), South Africa (X4), England (Y1), New Zealand (Y2), Pakistan (Y3) and Sri Lanka (Y4). Any other team that qualifies from a group instead of a pre-qualified team will replace it in the Super Eights.
