Cruz Azul and Chivas Guadalajara return to action MX League They open the playoffs when they face each other in the second leg of the quarterfinals on Sunday. With the first leg coming to an end in midweek, a place in the semi-finals is still up for grabs and we look forward to an exciting contest at the Estadio Azteca.
Cruz Azul did not pose a serious threat on the offensive end of the pitch on Friday as they played out a goalless draw with Chivas Guadalajara in the first leg of their playoff quarter-final.
Thanks for sending!
The result leaves Nicolas Larcamon's men without a win in two consecutive games, after their five-game unbeaten run in the league ended at the end of the regular season on November 9, when they lost 3-2 to Pumas UNAM at home.
Cruz Azul will be aiming to find their feet and reach the semifinals on Sunday when they return home, where they are unbeaten in 18 of their 19 Liga MX home games this year.
Meanwhile, Chivas Guadalajara closed the Apertura regular season in excellent fashion, picking up wins over Atlas, Pachuca and Monterrey in their last three games.
It capped a solid campaign for Gabriel Milito's men, who managed nine wins and two draws in their 17 games to finish sixth in the table, six points and three places behind this weekend's hosts.
Between Guadalajara and a place in the semi-finals of the playoffs is a trip to the Estadio Azteca, where they have lost each of their three most recent visits, conceding six goals and scoring once since a 1-0 win in April 2022.
With a spot in the semifinals at stake, expect Cruz Azul and Guadalajara to give it their all on Sunday, and that makes for an exciting watch.
Cruz Azul have been almost impenetrable at the Estadio Azteca in the league this year, and we're backing them to get the desired result in front of their home fans once again.
prediction: Cruz Azul 2-1 Chivas Guadalajara
Tip 1: Result – Cruz Azul to win
Tip 2: First to score – Cruz Azul (hosts have opened the scoring in four of their last five games against Guadalajara)
