Disappointing update on Will Ospreay's AEW return

AEW star Will Ospreay is currently sidelined due to injury related issues. The 32-year-old is one of the biggest names in the Tony Khan-led promotion and is a former two-time international champion.

Ospreay's final match in All Elite Wrestling took place at Forbidden Door 2025, where he, Hiroshi Tanahashi, Darby Allin, and the Golden☆Lovers defeated the Death Riders, the Young Bucks, and Gabe Kidd in a no-lights steel cage match. After this confrontation, Jon Moxley and his faction brutally attacked him, writing him off television.

The aerial killer had successful neck surgery in September. He assured fans via a post on social media that he is focused on recovering as soon as possible and returning to wrestling. He was rumored to be returning to the ring in January 2026. However, the wait is now expected to be longer.

According to Dave Meltzer, Ospreay is nowhere close to returning. In fact, he is expected to begin light training in January.

“Regarding Will Ospreay, some people told me about a post on social media thinking he was coming back in January. He's not. He's hoping to start light heavyweight training in January. He's a long way from coming back,” Metlzer said. (H/T: Ringside News)

Former WWE star EC3 doesn't like Will Ospreay's booking in AEW

In a recent episode of The outlaws of wrestlingformer WWE star EC3 said he's not impressed with AEW's representation of Ospreay. He added that if he had been in Tony Khan's shoes, the former international champion would have been a babyface.

“I don't think they did him a good service the way they portrayed him. Because if he booked that show, he'd be the best babyface, like right now. Good wrestling, being great in the ring is one thing, but how this guy should be the best, attract new eyeballs,” EC3 said.

Will Ospreay is a potential AEW World Champion. Only time will tell what the future holds.
