The Edmonton The Oilers were coming off a surprising loss to the Buffalo Sabers on Monday night at KeyBank Center. The Sabers cruised to a 5-1 victory behind a strong performance by rookie goaltender Colten Ellis.
Noah Ostlund scored twice for the Sabres, including a power play goal, with Bowen Byram, Beck Malenstryn and Tage Thompson (EN) getting the others for Buffalo. Meanwhile, Jack Roslovic responded for the Edmonton Oilers with his seventh of the season.
So here's a look at the Edmonton Oilers three least impressive players from their Monday night loss to the Buffalo Sabres.
The Edmonton Oilers fourth line didn't see much action on Monday night. He played in just 7:30 of ice time in 13 shifts. Unfortunately, Lazar's line got burned twice against the Sabres.
Lazar, like fellow quarterbacks Matias Janmark and Noah Philp, barely saw the ice against the Sabres. Oilers coach Kris Knoblauch shortened his bench as the game wore on, but the team couldn't get much going.
Jake Wallman and fellow defenseman Darnell Nurse had a terrible night against the Sabres. The pair was on the ice for virtually every goal. Walman in particular looked awful. He finished the night minus 3 in about 20 minutes of ice time in 26 shifts.
Check out a concrete example, as featured on the Sabres' official X account:
Walman can be seen spinning around the front of the net, trying to clear traffic. However, he ended up fielding Stuart Skinner, allowing Byram's shot to go through.
The Edmonton Oilers blueliner didn't register a shot on goal and had a block.
Nurse Darnell had an equally tough match. He hit the ice for over 22 minutes, but finished with a -2. He was also on the ice for the Sabres' power-play goal in the first period. But it was Ostlund's second of the night that put Nurse and the Oilers out.
Check it out:
The nurse stood by the net, trying to clear the traffic. Instead, Ostlund spun and slammed the shot into the net. Skinner, back behind the screen, didn't see the shot go.
The Sabers added an empty netter to ice the win on Monday night. So the Oilers will look to Wednesday night when they visit the Washington Capitals at Capital One Arena.
