It Vancouver Canucks they are looking for a new main coach after Rick Tocchet He spent three seasons behind the bench. Elliotte Friedman, Insider NHL, gave birth to the highest candidates the organization plans to play the coveted paper.
According to Friedman's latest reports on the 32 podcast Wednesday, the Canucks do not limit their search for family faces such as the current assistant coach Adam Foote and Manny Malhotra, lead coach of Abbotsford Canucks. The team has also interviewed several external candidates.
Friedman specifically mentioned that the Canucks interviewed Mitch Love, the assistant coach of the Washington capitals.
“I think they have interviewed Mitch Love, the coach helping Washington. This is more casual, obviously love continues to work. I think Canucks would like to get to know him face to face.” Said Friedman.
In addition, the Canucks have met Marco Sturm. Friedman said:
“They also interviewed Marco Sturm. I felt the Canucks were very happy with this interview. He also has options and I think Sturm has a real opportunity in Boston.”
The Canucks also consider Todd Reirden, the former capital coach of capitals. Although Elliotte Friedman suggested that they may not go with a veteran bank chief, the experience and registration of Reirden keep it in the conversation:
“I think they have interviewed Todd Reuden, but it seems likely that if not 100%, Canucks will hire a main coach for the first time and I think they are quite comfortable with this.”
Former coach Rick Tocchet brought the team to a 108-65-27 record for three seasons. Won by 2023-24 Jack Adams Award to win the Pacific title. Despite this success, Vancouver lost the playoffs this season, finishing six points in a wild card place at 38-30-14.
Elliotte Friedman He suggested that the Canucks prioritize candidates who will be really enthusiastic about the opportunity to run the team, instead of established coaches who can see the work as a passage.
“They want someone who wants this job, wants this opportunity and many of the main engineers would be like that.” Said Friedman.
“So I think one of the things they have to work here is some of their candidates … This does not mean that the boys do not like or not to be interested.”
This approach aligns with the organization's desire to find a fresh voice and a coach who can help the team to regain their foot after a disappointing 2024-25 campaign.
