There is no lost love between the two Rivals of Florida when the Lightning of Florida Panthers and Tampa Bay combined for a total of 312 penalties in the minute with 14 players withdrawn. This follows the Thursday preseason game, where a similar physical battle was played between the two teams.
Evan Rodrigues scored three goals for the panthers, as they won 7-0, with a game personified by the team special goals. The Panthers scored 6 goals of power and added another goal of 4 to 4 to deliver the lightning of their only loss of the preseason.
Rodrigues, however, like most panthers benches did not please the Lightning approach to the game.
“It was nonsense. It was stupid at the end,” Rodrigues said. (0:20) “It wasn't really hockey out there.”
Thursday's encounter increased mutual hatred between both teams after Panthers Aj Greer checked and struck Brandon Hagel in Lightning. After the game, the NHL players' security department fined Greer a maximum amount of $ 2,213.54.
With the incident that remained in latent memory, the lightning looked decided to send a statement to its rivals. Paul Maurice considers that more actions of the NHL are expected.
“You always have a concern when you go down to five or six forward; this is dangerous,” said Maurice. “But we had it.
“The League will look at it, manage it -in the same way they do it in the playoffs. I'll leave it.”
The crazy nature of the game was only intensified after the Panthers refused an eighth goal after they registered on the scoreboard for 6:03 minutes. Niko Mikkola received poor game conduct just after the 4th minute. He helped a goal from Jsper Boqvist, four minutes later, with the NHL who had to take the target from the records after the evaluation.
According to Lightning's main coach, Jon Cooper, fights between the two rosters have been elaborated for some time, taking into account the bounded nature of the game between the two teams.
“The two teams in Florida have been very successful in this league for the last six years,” Cooper said. “And I think anyone who has been part of this rivalry would probably look at this box score and will not be surprised and how, I cannot believe that it took such a thing to happen.
“They are two extremely proud franchises and the boys played with their hearts on their sleeves. That's all I can say.”
In this decade, lightning and panthers have been at 4 of the 5 Stanley Cups, and each time, either team has released their rivals to win the conference.
