LA Lakers guard Austin Reaves was defended by former player Nick Young on Thursday’s episode of “Gil’s Arena.” His impassioned defense came after host Gilbert Arenas called Reaves out for some bad shot selection.
Young said he is tired of the criticism directed at Reaves. He called out his critics for being hypocrites about the former Oklahoma Sooner.
Thanks for sending!
“I’m not going to let you talk about AR (Austin Reaves) like that,” Young said. “Because I’ve heard that shit from you all my life. It’s always big shots. You’re always up like this or down like this. AR is doing what AR does because everybody allowed him to do it.”

“You can’t be happy one day when the shots are going in and then mad the next day when they’re not,” the former Lakers guard added. “I won’t let you disrespect my corners like that… Bad shot maker. I hated that shit.”
Reaves has struggled in his last two games. On Sunday against the Philadelphia 76ers, he finished with 11 points on 3-for-16 shooting as the Lakers won 112-108 on the road. In his last game, a 132-119 NBA Cup loss against the San Antonio Spurs on Wednesday, he struggled again with 16 points on 6-for-16 shooting.
Despite his recent struggles, he has been one of the Lakers’ best players this season. He is averaging 27.8 points, 5.6 rebounds, 6.7 assists and 1.0 steals per game while shooting 50.3% from the field and 36.9% from beyond the arc.
Coach JJ Redick said after the loss to the San Antonio Spurs that he isn’t bothered by Austin Reaves’ struggles. He reminded his critics of his role during the absence of LeBron James i Luka Doncic.
“Guys carried us for six weeks, and that takes its toll on you. He kept fighting, and I appreciate that. He’s going to have a lot more great nights than frustrating nights,” Redick. he said.

Reaves and the Lakers will hope for better results when they visit the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 pm ET.
