Golf Pundit details why Rory McILroy does not play the 2025 Memorial Tournament

The Memorial Tournament (May 27 to June 1) will have some of the best golfers in the world, but will not have Rory McILroy. The World Two Number is located this week, a rarity when the event in question is a signature event.

Signature events have high fields exclusively for the best of the best of the PGA Tour. Not everyone can play them, so those who can compromise most of the time. McILroy is not, though.

There are a couple of reasons why. First of all, McILroy wanted to have a lighter calendar by 2025. This is not even the first signature event he has jumped. He is the third. He also releases McILroy to interpret a non-subject event next week, which will be an advantage for the tour.

Bob Harig of Sports Illustrated wrote this about McILroy with a justified reason for jumping:

“Good luck to return to $ 20 million pursuers, but it is not a great thing to have three, along with two important championships, in a period of seven weeks from the Tardist through the Travelers Championship.”

“Scheffler took the events of Byron Nelson and Colonial a great solid playing them. The same for McILroy next week in the Canadian Open.”

The controversy began because McILroy was so behind the signature events from the beginning. These high and expensive events were conceived with the help of McILroy to combat the Gulf of Liv and to give the best golfers the opportunity to earn money as they would.

To see McILroy jumping -ne three, including the Sentry and the RBC HeritageIt is a surprise, given its role. It is not necessarily a bad thing in the eyes of Harig.

Golf Insider says Rory McILroy has a good reason to jump all signature events

Rory McILroy, sitting this weekend, is jumping his third signing event of the season. There are eight at the schedule, so the Irish is jumping a fair part.

Bob Harig believes that this is totally fair, given what McILroy does in place and how he tries to balance his calendar. Said through Sports Illustrated:

“Take a look at what you are doing to try to play your tour at home, the DP World Tour, as well as the PGA Tour. He performed the Dubai event in the Middle East to start the year, so his reason to jump in Hawaii.”

Harig continued:

“RBC's heritage jumped, but he is playing RBC Canadian, a great victory for a title sponsor who does not yet have to renew any of the two events for next year … It is not ideal and, without a doubt, it would be fantastic if he played one of the best events of the year. But the decision also deserves some perspective.”

Thus, while Rory McILroy's decision to jump certain events stands out, these events do not necessarily need it. Others, those who play, could mean the impetus for a golfist so much, so it is not a loss for golf in general.
