Hawks All-Star suffers brutal leg injury and undergoes MRI

Trae Young left the Atlanta Hawks game against the Brooklyn Nets in the first quarter after suffering a brutal leg injury. Young will reportedly undergo an MRI to determine the severity of his injury, which appears to be to his right knee. The Hawks managed to beat the Nets, 117-112, despite not having their best player in the second half.

Speaking to reporters after Wednesday's game, Hawks coach Quin Snyder gave an update on Young's injury. Snyder had good news, with the initial diagnosis confirming that it's not an ACL tear. The star guard is still scheduled to have an MRI to determine the severity of his injury.

“I think the biggest thing is it's not his ACL,” Snyder said, per Hawks on SI. “He's going to have an MRI tonight or tomorrow and he'll make a determination from there. So I don't know how long or in what respect, but it's something we hope he'll be back as long as possible. He didn't want to be out of the game.

The coach added:

“He's a competitor. He takes a lot of pride in being available. There's been a lot of times in the time we've been together that he's been hit and he comes out and plays, and you saw that tonight as well. He tried to hang in there.”

Haynes: Trae Young (knee) will undergo an MRI on Thursday.

Bring on Young suffered the injury on a play in the first quarter after teammate Mouhamed Gueye went down on his left knee. Gueye was pushed by Brooklyn Nets forward Noah Clowney, causing him to go down and land on the leg of his star point guard.

Young immediately grabbed his knee as he writhed in pain on the ground. He was able to play the next possession and even spoke to coach Quin Snyder before being ejected from the game. He returned to the locker room and was ruled out for the remainder of the contest.

Trae Young played just six minutes and finished with six points, one rebound, one assist and one block before his injury. The Atlanta Hawks managed to survive against the Brooklyn Nets, earning a hard-fought 117-112 victory.

Jalen Johnson led the way with 23 points, seven rebounds and five assists, while Nickeil Alexander-Walker added 18 points off the bench. Onyeka Okongwu and Luke Kennard were also huge as the second unit helped keep the Hawks afloat.

Atlanta's next game is on the road against the injury-riddled Indiana Pacers on Friday.
