Former ATP star Sam Querrey shared his thoughts on the recent title match between Carlos Alcaraz and Jannik Sinner in Turin The duo met in the ATP Finals title match, with the Italian defeating Alcaraz in straight sets to defend his crown.
This was another indoor tournament, where Sinner showed how dominant he is in these conditions. Querrey, while talking about the finals of the Nothing Major Show, compared Sinner's inner dominance to the same Roger Federerthe strength of the grass.
“I started rooting for Sinner to not lose serve throughout the tournament,” Querrey said (2:45). “I didn't necessarily care who won the match, but it would have been great for him not to drop serve the whole tournament. But Sinner is unbeatable indoors basically. He's the closest, he's like Federer on grass at his best. You know, Sinner indoors is like the same thing.”
In his prime, Roger Federer was unbeatable on grass. He has the longest winning streak on grass, winning 65 consecutive matches between 2003 and 2008. During that streak, he won 10 straight titles, five in Wimbledon and five in Halle. Rafael Nadal finally broke that streak by winning the 2008 Wimbledon Championship final.
Throughout his career, Federer won 19 grass-court singles titles, the most in the open era. This includes eight Wimbledon titles, nine Halle titles and one Stuttgart title. Federer has recorded 192 career victories on grass, which is the most of anyone in the open era.
Among all active players on tour, Jannik Sinner has the best indoor win percentage. According to the ATP Beyond the Numbers series, his indoor mark is 88-21.
By winning the 2025 ATP Finals, Sinner extended his indoor winning streak to 31 matches. During that streak, only three times has the match gone to a deciding set.
That streak is one of the longest in Open era history, tied only with the likes of John McEnroe, Roger Federer, Novak Djokovicand Ivan Lendl having had more time.
The 24-year-old Italian star is already matching the best indoor stars in tennis history. He is currently joint sixth with Richard Gasquet with seven ATP indoor titles. The four-time Grand Slam champion makes tracks Alexander Zverev (8).
It remains to be seen where Sinner ends up on this list of most indoor titles when he retires from tennis.
