“I understand pretty well what to expect”

Australian grappling icon Lachlan Giles has done his due diligence on his ONE Fight Night 38 opponent, Marcelo Garcia.

The 39-year-old legend will come out of retirement on December 5th to face a man many consider the BJJ GOAT in a lightweight submission grappling match at the Lumpinee Stadium in Bangkok, Thailand.

A true student of the game, Giles spent years studying Garcia's revolutionary techniques. 'giant killer' admits he has long been a fan of 'Marcelinho' and analyzed his signature style long before they were scheduled to fight.

Giles watched countless instructional videos and footage of the Brazilian master and is confident he found some openings to exhibit.

Absolute MMA's head coach shared on The FloGrappling Show:

“I probably spent seven or eight years trying to be a version of Marcelo's game. I was in MGinAction (Marcelo Garcia's virtual academy), watching his instructions, watching footage all the time, just trying to emulate his game as much as possible. I understand very well what to expect from him.”

Giles, who gained global acclaim for his inspirational bronze finish in the Absolute Division at the 2019 ADCC World Championships, is looking to get the biggest win of his career against a man he has huge respect for.
