The Star of India jasprit bumrah was named Player of the Series for the 2024-25 Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT), making history as the first Indian player to achieve this feat in three SENA countries. Meanwhile, Australia clinched the series 3-1, sealing their victory with a dominant six-wicket win in Sydney.
Bumrah was absent during the fourth innings of the fifth Test against Australia due to a back spasm. Despite this, he was the standout performer in the series, finishing with 32 wickets in nine innings, an impressive average of 13.06 and three five-wicket hauls.
The 31-year-old also made history by surpassing Bishan Singh Bedi's 47-year-old record for most wickets taken by an Indian bowler in an away Test series.
His superb performance earned him the well-deserved Player of the Series award, making him the only Indian cricketer to achieve this feat against three SENA countries.
Bumrah claimed the prestigious honor during India's 2022-23 tour of England, where he took 23 wickets in five matches. He also won the award during the 2023-24 India tour of south africahaving taken 12 wickets in two matches.

Speaking at post-match conferenceThe 31-year-old, who was named player of the series, said:
“A little frustrating, but sometimes you have to respect your body and you can't fight your body. Sometimes you have to accept it. I would have liked to play the hottest cover in the series. I just had a little bit of discomfort after the first innings.”
“The talk was about belief. The other bowlers also stepped up in the first innings. The talk this morning was also about belief. Lots of sixes and overs. The whole series was well fought. We were there today too It was a well-fought series,” he added.
Bumrah has represented India in 45 Tests, taking 205 wickets, including 13 five-wicket hauls.
