For the first time since 2013, the Nascar Truck Series will return to the iconic Rockingham Speedway this Friday, April 18th. However, there has been a lot of talk on whether this mile -shaped oval will host another cup race.
From its opening from 1965 to 2004, Rockingham Speedway has held several events, including the Nascar Cup series. However, the probability that it will be returned seems unlikely in the foreseeable future. Athletic's Jordan Bianchi explained why recently.
“It's complicated,” Bianchi said (through nytimes.com). “First, fans have to attend -and not only this weekend, but also for future races, even after the novelty is wearing away.”
Right now, there are five songs, Bowman Gray, Charlotte, Darlington, Martinsville and North Wilkesboro, who are two hours or less from Charlotte, North Carolina, which becomes the current axis of sports. This means that about 21 percent of the 38 races calendar is concentrated in this area.
“If Nascar wants to expand his footprint in North America, adding to this logjam will not help,” said Bianchi. “If the race is exceptional and the support of the people is great, maybe Nascar finds a way to go out to Rockingham in the future Cup calendar.”
But right now, Bianchi believes that fans should enjoy the next act of the truck series in Rockingham, instead of asking about future possibilities. Fans can see the race at Fox Sports 1 from 5 p.m. or listen to live radio updates on Nascar Siriusxm radio.
Kasey Kahne will return to Nascar Racing for the first time since 2018 at Rockingham Speedway on Saturday, April 19th. As Yardbarker stated in one of his last reports, the veteran runner will lead the number 33 Chevrolet for Richard Childress Racing This time.
Kahne's last race was Southern 500 2018 in Darlington Raceway. There were 11 races in the season, but L'Ampclaw, the Washington Native, had to withdraw by early due to underlying health conditions. At that time he led Leavine's family races.
After taking number 33 RCR Chevy for a test turning, Kahne said Hind,
“I don't feel like I have been out of the nascar whenever I have it. Time flies and I'm glad to do this race again.”
“I did (five) Xfinity races, a truck race and a cup race and it was competitive every time it was there. The size of the track, the bank, the plain at the points … everything that brings Rockingham. It's a fantastic track to which I wanted to run again,” Kahne exclaimed.
Call North Carolina Education Lottery 250 presented by Black's Tire, the 250 laps event has been scheduled for next Saturday, at 4pm. Fans can see Kasey Kahne in action only at CW or listening to radio updates on MRN and Siriusxm Nascar radio.
