Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen pointed to doubts about the team as a source of motivation in the locker room during halftime of Sunday's 27-25 win over the Baltimore Ravens.
MMQB Albert Breer spoke with Bills head coach Sean McDermott, who relayed what happened during the break.
“Before we went back there, (Allen) just said, 'Hey, all we hear all week is we're not good enough, we're not big enough, we're not strong enough,'” McDermott said of Breer.
This was clearly a constant theme throughout the week.
Tim Graham The Athletic reported that members of the Bills' defense “watched a series of doubters and haters talk trash about Buffalo and declare that Baltimore was going to win.”
“We had video,” defensive tackle Jordan Phillips said. “Our most prominent video this week was all the media saying s–t. 'They can't do this. They can't do that.' Our coaches are bad.
Phillips added that Buffalo's defense was challenged by the Bills forcing 32 turnovers and matching Baltimore's third-fewest offense (11).
“That's been our motto all week: let's see who's better,” Phillips said.
Bills, which were insignificant betting underdogproved to be the better team that night, but not by much.
Baltimore nearly erased an 11-point halftime deficit and was one Mark Andrew down from forcing overtime. The veteran corner couldn't haul off Lamar Jackson's short pass on the two-point conversion attempt.
The Bills came pretty close to proving their haters right.
