Former England star Karen Carney and professional dancer Carlos Gu have won the 2025 series of The Great Dance.
Carney became the first footballer to lift the glitter-ball trophy while Gu became the first gay and Asian man to win. BBC One dance program.
Last Saturday it also marked the last time that presenters Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman co-hosted the show for a week after announcing it in October. they have been leaving the program after 21 and 11 years respectively.
After being announced as the winner, beating West End actress Amber Davies and TV personality George Clarke, Carney, 38, said: “I can’t believe it.
“I just want to say thank you to everyone who has supported our journey, and supported us.
“Thank you to this wonderful gentleman, we are a team and I couldn’t have done it without you.”
Gu, 32, thanked the former Lioness player and said: “You changed my life.
“For girls and boys looking at home, dream big and be proud and don’t give up,” he added.
Before the winners of the series were crowned, a video song was played for Daly and Winkleman with messages from fans, friends and famous faces including TV chef Mary Berry.
Judge Craig Revel Horwood later read a message sent by Queen Camilla which read: “I often think that Strictly is not a show about dancing but about friendship: the relationships formed, the challenges overcome and the joy we share working together.
“If this is true, then yours may have been the greatest alliance of all.
“The kindness, compassion and joy you have shown to and from each other has been at the heart of the show’s success.
“I think I speak for everyone when I say that you did a great job.
“I wish you all success wherever you go.
Daly said: “Thank you all so much for your kind words, it means a lot to the world.”
“Thank you so much for the support you have shown over the years.”
Winkleman added: “It’s been a privilege to be with you this weekend.”
The finalists performed three dances during the live show including the previous performance after the masterclass with the judges, the show dance, and their favorite dance from the series.
Carney and Gu performed their Peaky Blinders-inspired Argentine tango to Red Right Hand by Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, which received 40 points from the judges.
They later performed their dance moves to Inner Smile and Texas, receiving 37 points from the judges, before performing the ball jive to Blondie’s Way One or Another as their favorite dance.
Daly and Winkleman return for their final appearance as the show’s iconic duo in a pre-recorded special which will air on Christmas Day.
