Kyle Petty returned to Elvis Presley's Graceland mansion on Tuesday and recalled his first visit in 1995. “In 1995, the Kyle Petty Charity Ride went through Memphis on the first trip we did. I parked my bike right here and sat and took a picture in front of Elvis's Gates. That was the highlight of my life. I'm telling you, a highlight of that year. We still have that iconic photo and we're having a great time.”
Petty, who made more than 800 starts in the Series of cupscollected eight victories and finished fifth in the championship twice (1992 and 1993). “I learned how to ride long rides with Don Tilley … And Don taught me how to carry a bike, ride a bike, prepare to ride a bike and always ride a stock Harley Davidson. That's what Don always said, so that's what I did,” he said.
“We drove that road from Statesville, North Carolina to Memphis, I don't know how many times. It was fun, it was scenic, it was so much better than being on 40 and being on the interstate with these trucks,” he added.
Petty also mentioned that Highway 64 will be part of the Kyle Petty Charity Walk next year The 30th anniversary ride will take place May 1-9, 2026, from Sonoma Raceway to Charlotte Motor Speedway in North Carolina.
The motorcycle ride has covered more than 13 miles and raised an estimated $23 million for charity over the past 29 years.
