Both pundits were quick to predict a Chelsea win over AFC Bournemouth and similar results for Fulham, Newcastle United and Manchester United in their respective games. The other five games saw them have contrasting predictions, with Hamilton backing Sunderland over Manchester City, saying:
“I think it will be a tight game (Manchester City vs Sunderland). I think Sunderland have been doing a great job so it could go either way. I’m going for Sunderland.”
Hamilton also backed Leeds United over Liverpool, with Leclerc going the other way. The seven-time world champions also predicted a defeat for Tottenham in their London derby against Brentford.
The Englishman added that he does not want West Ham United to win their game against Brighton & Hove Albion, before making a cheeky jab at Leclerc, joking that his were predictions while the Monaco driver was making guesses.
Jamie Redknapp made a bold prediction in November, claiming Liverpool were out of the Premier League title race. He said they had dropped too many points and were unlikely to catch leaders Arsenal and told Sky Sports (via Metro):
“Yeah, look, we can forget Liverpool. They’ve had a few mentions tonight, but let’s forget Pool. They can’t win the Premier League this year. They’ve gone too far, the confidence is too low, it’ll be a miracle if they do. So I think there’s probably three runners, but one standout. Arsenal are by far the best team. Last four or five years.”
Liverpool are ninth in the Premier League table, 11 points behind leaders Arsenal. The Reds are level on points with Manchester United and Brighton & Hove Albion, while they sit two points behind fourth-placed Chelsea.
