Lindsey Vonn’s coach Aksel Lund Svindal made his feelings known about the American’s first World Cup win of the 2025-26 season. He hired Svindal as coach in August 2025 for the Olympic season.
Vonn won her first World Cup in seven years on December 12 in the downhill at St. Moritz, Switzerland. She finished the race in 1:29.63 seconds and won by just one second ahead of Magdalena Egger. After her, the Australian Mirjam Puchner finished the race in third place.
The victory marked the American’s first win since her comeback from the six-year layoff. After this emotional triumph, the 41-year-old and her coach, Svindal, spoke to TNT Sports.
The latter spoke about Vonn’s performance, stating that she did a good job and that she was in her career mode after a long time. Revealing how nervous she was during the start of the performance, she said:
“I was nervous. I wasn’t sure what I was going to tell you. So I just told you to like to go after that, stay on your skis and work with the terrain. Well, I mean I wanted to sound convincing. No, but honestly, we had a good plan. It wasn’t too complicated, right? But I have to say, I thought it was going to be tight,” Vonn’s coach said.
He added:
“I was surprised how nervous she was at the beginning, but that’s good. It just means it matters, right? If you get nervous it means something to you. So being nervous is a good thing. And this is the first time I’ve seen her in race mode. That’s why you’re fast. So I’m there. And then if you need anything, let me know. But I’m very impressed. I mean she was a runner too, but you have more intensity.”
Von broke into tears with the trophy in hand during the national anthem.
shortly after by Lindsey Vonn prowess in St. Moritz, his coach, Aksel Lund Svindal, appreciated his performance. Svindal shared a video of the winning moment on Instagram. The whole team was seen celebrating the victory. Praising her for the triumph, he wrote:
“Fantastic skiing @lindseyvonn💪🏻☺️”
Reacting to the note, Vonn re-shared Svindal’s story on her Instagram and wrote a sweet note that read:
“Thank you coach 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻”
