Liverpool inquire about signing 20-year-old Barcelona star; player willing to seek transfer if playing time does not improve: Reports

Liverpool have carried out an investigation into the situation of Barcelona midfielder Gavi. According to Catalan channel Nacional, the Reds are looking to bring the 20-year-old to Anfield.

He seems to have fallen down the pecking order at Camp Nou with Hansi Flick. The German seems to prefer teenager Marc Casado and Pedri in the double pivot, leaving Gavi relegated to an option used mostly from the bench. He has made 12 appearances this season but has only found 241 minutes of action.

Thus, it has emerged as a possible transfer option for several clubs, among them Liverpool. His contract expires in the summer of 2026. With the report saying there have been no talks between player and club about extending his stay, he could find a relatively cheap exit.

Gavi intends to stay a Barcelonahoping to impress the coach and fight for his place. However, if he does decide to leave, the Reds are keen to bring him into the squad. The report suggests that he is highly rated by manager Arne Slot and the club could offer him a hefty salary to make him one of the most highly rated players.

The 20-year-old would join a talented midfield that contains the likes of Ryan Gravenberch, Alexis Mac Allister and Curtis Jones.

Barcelona continues to control Liverpool's wing Luis Diaz. As reported by the Spanish Mundo Deportivo, the Blaugrana want to incorporate the 27-year-old attacker into their ranks.

However, the Colombian is expected to stay at Anfield. His current contract with the club runs until the summer of 2027, but the Reds want to sign him for an extension soon.

The contract situations of Mohamed Salah, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Virgil van Dijk are likely to be higher priorities for Liverpool as they are expected to be free agents next summer. After that, they could look to tie up the Colombian who has been a vital part of Arne Slot's attack this season.

Diaz has been used both on the left and up top, scoring nine goals and making three assists in 22 games in all competitions.

He could be a key addition to a Barcelona team chasing Nico Williams to play on the left of their attack. While Raphinha has proven to be a revelation with Hansi Flick there, the addition of another experienced attacker could be useful for the Barça.
