Mark Martin Finds Parity With Ty Dillon's Sudden Fired Spotter From Kaulig Racing Before Talladega Race

Following last Sunday's crash at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Kaulig Racing has fired spotter Ty Dillon ahead of the Talladega Superspeedway race. Reflecting on this, former NASCAR driver Mark Martin found a similarity in Joe White's shot before the 2,660-mile three-oval superspeedway race.

The Cup Series team let White go after the infamous Dillon-William Byron incident happened during the final laps of the 267-lap race. With 31 laps to go, Dillon ran into some issues with his No. 10 Chevy Camaro ZL1 and attempted to pit.

After a miscommunication, Byron, who was running behind him, was unaware of the situation and had nowhere to go. The event resulted in a double DNF for the OEM. Recalling White's layoff before the Talladega race, Mark Martin recalled a similar incident that happened in his early career.

The NASCAR veteran was fired from Jim Stacy Racing before the 2,660-mile three-oval superspeedway race in the 1983 season. The team claimed to “run up front and win some races” and replaced Martin with Morgan Shepherd. Reflecting on this, the former Cup Series driver wrote:

“Well I got fired right before @TALLADEGA one time too man. Maybe things will work out for the better. They did it for me.”

Meanwhile, Joe Gibbs Racing driver Denny Hamlin won the 267-lap race, becoming the first driver to earn a spot in the Championship Four race.

“When you're under a green flag, and it's one of those racetracks like, you know, Las Vegas, where you're at, you spend a lot of time slowing down on the bank in the groove, and you're like, 'God,' and every time you're like, 'You're trying to get to the road fast, but you're also trying to run, no. It's like he's very nervous,” he concluded.
