NBA analyst claims Zion Williamson “completely screwed over” the Pelicans' organization and culture

Zion Williamson has only played in five games this season despite being in the best shape of his NBA career last summer. Williamson is dealing with another muscle-related injury, prompting an NBA analyst to make a big claim about the New Orleans Pelicans star

Speaking on the “Road Trippin'” podcast with Richard Jefferson and Channing Frye, Perkins explained how Williamson wrecked the Pelicans franchise. He pointed out all the problems the former No. 1 pick has caused since being drafted in 2019.

“Zion has completely screwed this organization since they drafted him, top to bottom,” Perkins said. “Like, really talk, because you can't depend on him. You don't know what's going on. There's so much you have to do. He had to clean up in certain areas.”

Kendrick Perkins gave a shout-out to Zion Williamson's agent, Bill Duffy, who apparently went out of his way to clean up the New Orleans Pelicans star's act. However, Perkins thought it was time for the Pelicans to let go of their best player since then Anthony Davis.

“It's not available, so what are you going to do with it?” Perkins said. “They could waive him, they could trade him. What's his trade market? I think they should leave Zion. Every year we get excited.”

The former NBA champion added that Williamson's injury history is something that has hindered him, particularly hamstring issues. It could be related to his body, form or athleticism as a whole, as he is a rare specimen for his combination of size, speed and power.

After missing the last nine games with a hamstring injury, Zion Williamson has been cleared to return. Williamson was listed as available by the New Orleans Pelicans ahead of their game against the Denver Nuggets on Wednesday at the Smoothie King Center.

Williamson was averaging 22.8 points, 6.8 rebounds, 4.6 assists and 2.0 steals per game before his injury. He also shot 48.7 percent from the field, though the Pelicans were 0-5 when he played this season.

New Orleans entered Wednesday's contest with an abysmal 2-12 record, which is the worst record in the Western Conference. They also had a six-game losing streak, facing Nikola Jokic and company. It should be noted that the Pelicans do not own their pick in next year's draft.
